About this Train 🚂🚂 :
No. 4472 Flying Scotsman is a LNER Class A3 4-6-2 "Pacific" steam locomotive built in 1923 for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) at Doncaster Works to a design of Nigel Gresley. Almost every rail enthusiast knows the story of Flying Scotsman. She was one of the first of Sir Nigel Gresley’s revolutionary A1 Pacifics and No. 4472 seemed to stand out to him the most. It was Flying Scotsman Gresley chose to showcase his new class of steam locomotive at the 1924 British Empire Exhibition at Wembley.
By 1963, BR decided it was time for steam to go, in favour of more modern diesel locomotives.
