Jonathan Blake was holding the pen when the first European venture capital limited partnership fund was created. In the early 1980s, he built the case to Britain's Treasury that this novel on shore structure was legitimate, and he successfully argued the case that carried interest should be treated as capital gain.
The structure he developed has since become the default financial model for the whole European private equity and venture capital industry.
