Hi Everyone!
My name is Dan, and I am a veterinarian. Today I am sharing about Stomatitis. Stomatitis is one of the hardest diseases to manage and treat in the cat, and it can be expensive. In some cases all the teeth need to be extracted.
Feline stomatitis is a severe and painful condition characterized by inflammation of a cat's mouth and gums. It's often caused by an immune system overreaction to dental plaque, leading to inflammation that affects the gums, teeth, and oral tissues. This condition can make eating extremely painful for cats, leading to weight loss, drooling, and reluctance to eat.
Treatment usually involves a combination of approaches, including dental cleanings, antibiotics to control secondary infections, pain management, and in severe cases, extraction of some or all of the affected teeth. Some cats may also benefit from immunosuppressive therapy to manage the immune system's response.
Because stomatitis can significantly impact a cat's quality of life, it's essential for affected cats to receive prompt veterinary care and ongoing management to keep them as comfortable as possible.
