Zack was his hero, and mostly... his best friend. And Cloud felt it was his fault that he died, because in honor, he left Cloud behind while he was wounded, and he died exactly the way he lived. Cloud's life afterward was filled with monotones and bleak grays, his heart and world shattered by the death of someone who had truly made his world magnificent with color. But now, in his darkest days, the shadows were colder, nights were longer, and it took Cloud years to regain even a piece of the person he once was. When he was serving, he was a Soldier, he told himself. He didn't have to be anyone else. He could just let everything fade away. But when doing group missions, even Soldiers with different colored spiky hair made him think it was Zack, just as always, to have his hopes and heart shot down by an unfamiliar face. But as years past, and the grays faded to color, he learned to accept that, sometimes... Goodbye is the only way, even if it meant sacrificing the hope of seeing his best friend again, it didn't mean that he had to let go of his memory.
