Not dead in theory — dead in impact. Samaria had “dead faith.” They heard the promise but never left the city. Their lack of action was the evidence of unbelief. If they truly believed the Word, they would have walked out of the gate.
Psychologically, this is connected to something called expectancy theory — which says people act based on what they expect will happen. If someone expects failure, they don’t try. If they expect rejection, they avoid relationships. If they expect nothing good, they never pursue opportunity.
The Word has power, but it needs faith to activate it.
