Council member Dave Fogerty of Black Creek Bison near Spooner, WI discusses why he became interested in alternative forages for his grass-fed bison operation.
Dave addressed the problems of drought and sandy soils using a variety of tools:
• Warm-season annual grasses (teff grass, crabgrass, brown mid-rib sorghum-sudan grass)
• Warm-season perennial grasses (switchgrass, big blue stem, little blue stem)
• Oak savanna with a grass-legume mix
