Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth - Rulers of the Other Worlds (Brutal VR Combat Challenge Walkthrough) on Hard difficulty, played on the PS5 Pro in Versatility mode (60fps). This Brutal VR challenge (from Chadley) is unlocked after you defeat Gilgamesh and the Protorelic Phenomena quest line. Beating all of these challenges will unlock the Virtually Renowned trophy, as well as unlock a key item treasure for Johnny, to unlock the 7-Star Hotel trophy.

The method I used to dispatch these bosses in quick order is only particular for my equipment and materia setup. You can dissect exactly how I did it by examining the video, but I won't go into details because it requires more than is necessary. If your goal is to simply beat them, you won't need to do exactly as I did (this also makes it easy for me to see who copies my strategy exactly).

Most players can beat the first three rounds if they follow a script, but Gilgamesh and Virtual Sephiroth require Ultra Instinct. Full concentration is necessary. Before this challenge, I thought I was good at this game. I didn't know how much more depth and mastery there still was left.

R1: At this point you should have three Elemental materia, and you might think to equip them on all of your character's armor, paired with Fire. If you are skilled though, you really only need to have them on two. I noticed this when I could finish both Kujata and Phoenix with only Tifa and Cloud, so it doesn't make sense to waste precious materia slots on Barret, who can use them more effectively in a more general benefit. Kill Kujata twice? Ain't nobody got time for that. My setup allows me to finish Phoenix in the small window before it does Rebirth Flame.

R2: You cannot have both of them attack you at the same time, or it will be messy.

R3: It's possible to finish Odin before he Vanishes, but I found that you get overextended (depleted) when it comes to Alexander. It's much easier to get Odin close to Stagger, but make him Vanish with ATB commands, and save your juice for Alexander. Odin is easy to finish off once Alexander is done, and gives you time to prepare a heal for Gilgamesh.

R4: This Gilgamesh is on a different frequency compared to the one you fought in the Gardens, so don't feel bad if you did not keep a game save before that fight to gain familiarity and experience (to help you with this one). You need to be aggressive when you have openings, and wait and be patient when required, because if you make a move with bad timing, your team can get crippled fast. Gilgamesh's attacks have much shorter frames, and the game knows when you've made a move and can interrupt you. I experimented with Resist+Magnify here to deal with Toad, but I've learned to just deal with it if it comes.

R5: Get good at recalling allies with Synergy Skills. Get good at perfect blocking. Use ReRaise spell as life insurance. Counter his Limit Break with your own Limit Break. This is the highest level of gameplay. Did you think beating Sephiroth would be a cakewalk? I could write an entire guide on this challenge -- but a wise man once said if you are good at something, never do it for free.

Some people chase trophies, just to collect trophies. Anybody with enough time can collect trophies, and they cry when it's not easy. I go after trophies and achievements for the challenges behind them; because skill and skill levels vary. That is true distinguishment. 🎯💯
