The Cairo–Cape Town Highway is part of the Trans-African Highway network, officially designated as Trans-African Highway 4 (TAH 4). It spans 10,228 km (6,355 miles) and connects Cairo, Egypt, to Cape Town, South Africa. The highway passes through Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and South Africa.
Originally envisioned during British colonial rule as the Cape to Cairo Road, the project was later revived in the 1980s as part of Africa’s transcontinental road network. While most of the highway is completed, some sections are still under development. The road is expected to enhance economic growth and connectivity across the continent
