With the recent airing of the Mad Dogs & Englishmen Revisited Live At Lockin' documentary, Learning to Live Together, starring Tedeschi Trucks Band, I decided to post the original recording of Matthew Moore's song "Space Captain" by Joe Cocker. It was originally on the B-side of "The Letter," Joe's lead-off single promoting the Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour in spring 1970. Leon’s piano intro is mesmerizing!
Moore had recorded a cover of David Gates’ song “Face In A Crowd” for Capitol Records and later recorded a single of his own song "Savannah" for Leon Russell's Shelter Records label in 1978. Both are on this YouTube channel.
He also was among the Mad Dogs alumni that took part in Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi's reunion of that incredible tour. If you get the chance, you should watch Learning To Live Together and the original Joe Cocker Mad Dogs & Englishmen documentary.
