This part begins on the overnight train into Aswan, and upon de-training we immediately take a ferry to Philae Island to see the Temple of Isis. After some pool time at the Aswan hotel, we made a visit to a lovely Nubian family on Elephantine Island, who provided us with a walking tour of the village and a delicious meal.
Early the next morning, we took a four-hour drive to visit the Abu Simbel temple. Well worth the early wake up and drive time, it's a stunning achievement of design and construction. And reconstruction, as the entire thing was taken down and rebuilt to avoid it being flooded with the construction of the new damn.
Then back to Aswan to explore the town and get ready for the next big leg of the journey.
