Giovanni Battista Fontana (1571-1630) - Sonata Prima
from "Sonate a 1.2.3. per il violino, o cornetto, fagotto, chitarone, violoncino o simile altro istromento, Venezia:: Bartolomeo Magni, 1641"
Enjoy our recording of Fontana’s “Sonata prima” with a copy of a historic cornetto.
As you probably know, today’s cornettos are not replicas of real instruments because of issues of intonation/pitch.
Seicento Stravagante has managed to find the right organ to play with the copy of the cornetto cat. n. 0697 from “Museo Nazionale degli Strumenti Musicali” - Rome, “Marcello Giusti del Giardino” collection, attributed to Bassano (pitch 475Hz).
The instrument was made by Paolo Fanciullacci together with the copy of n. 0698, the only 2 modern copies of the “Roma” cornettos.
Organ by Cosimo Ravani - Borgo a Mozzano (1628), restaured by Glauco Ghilardi, pitch 475Hz.
A special thank to Andrea Inghisciano for borrowing us his beautiful “Roma” Cornetto.
