I figured it was about time to post the process of how we make our bass fishing jigs from beginning to end. The jigs are hand-poured and wire tied. Let us know what you think. You can also check out all our jigs and products at www.onecastfishing.com
.
The first step in making a jig is to pour the head. We do this by using a jig mold where we place the Mustad hook and weed guard pin. Then we pour the jig, remove it from the mold, cut the spur, and clean up the jig head.
.
The second step is painting. We accomplish this by powder coating our jigs using a fluid bed. The jig is heated with a propane torch, dipped into the powder, then baked to ensure an extra durable finish.
.
Once the jigs are cured and cooled, we then glue in the weed guard. If we are making a swim jig then we also glue on the eyes.
.
The final step is tying on the jig skirt. We use wire to tie our jigs because they are much more durable than the rubber collars you often receive when you purchase jigs at the big box stores. The wire tie won't slip or dry rot making a better fishing experience. To tie on the skirt, we place our jig in a vice and take our skirt tabs and place around the jig. We then tie the jig on with the wire and cut the ends of the tabs. The jig is now ready for packaging and shipping.
