In this video I’m going to try to determine whether or not a drum kit with a tiny 16” bass drum is really a valuable asset to have as a drummer, or if it just doesn’t pack the punch needed to perform alongside a 22” or other larger kick drums. I'm going to be demonstrating 3 different kits today, 2 of them having 16" bass drums and one of them having a 22", 13" 16" setup. Smaller shell sizes can offer you a bright, highly-tuned sound, which is easier to access than it would be on a kit with larger sizes, however my Hayman that I use in this video has also been tuned fairly high for a kit of its size, giving it a far more vintage sound. The 3rd kit that I play on this video has very similar sizes to this small Yamaha, however it does have a mic port, and it is tuned a little lower than the Manu Katche Junior drums.
The idea of this video is for you to make up your own mind about whether or not a small kit could be a valuable asset for certain styles of music, or whether it's just not going to give you what you need for your style.
