The Persian Empire which had survived thousands of cuts across its long history faces its biggest challenge yet. On its doorstep the Greek City state of Macedon has consolidated power in much of Greece and is about to attempt the unthinkable, an invasion of the empire's home soil.

Artaxerxes III was the last of the old school Shahs, possessing both the required peacetime and military leadership needed to maintain cohesion across the various satraps that made up the Persian Empire.

With him died the hope that the coming Macedon storm with Alexander at its helm could be stymied. Would Darius III the usurper possessing no leadership experience or training possess what the empire required most in its darkest hours?
