Took a big risk painting my 2002 Subaru WRX at home this week. As a DIY automotive enthusiast working out of my driveway, I tried tackling a full car paint job with nothing but basic tools and a self-taught approach. Things didn’t go smoothly… a few mistakes, some unexpected rain, and plenty of lessons learned along the way.
This video follows the full process of prepping, sanding, masking, spraying base coat and clear coat, and fixing issues as they popped up. It’s definitely not a professional body shop job — more like backyard mechanic meets beginner auto body repair — but the final result surprised me in the best way.
