Rhino vs Elephant: Rare Clash Between Africa’s Giants

A rhino and elephant clashed tusk to horn in an epic battle over territory.

Natalie van den Berg was visiting Botlierskop Private Game Reserve, South Africa, on October 3 when she was treated to a rare sight.

Dramatic footage captured the moment a huge elephant and rhino came face to face at the top of a ridge before charging at each other.

Despite standing its ground, the rhino was pushed back by the sheer force of the elephant while the rest of its herd watched on.

Natalie said: “It was truly a once in a lifetime experience. Simba, our guide, mentioned that he had never seen it before.

“We have done a couple of game drives at Botlierskop now and have never experienced anything like that before.

“It was fantastic and so interesting to see two animals of that size go up against each other.

“Our guide for the game drive, had just finished mentioning how the rhino and elephant didn’t get along.

“Just as we were about to leave the area the rhino came up over the hill and the whole heard of elephants surrounded the rhino.

“There was a bit of a standoff between one of the elephants and the rhino before they finally started to engage.

“We believe they were fighting over territory as the rhino tried to walk through the area where the herd of elephants were.”
