These recordings are AI-assisted tribute covers of Superfluous Motor’s 2018 album “Trifecta: Funk.”
All compositions, melodies, arrangements, and artistic ideas belong entirely to Superfluous Motor.
Superlative Molar’s versions exist purely as celebratory reinterpretations, not replacements.
Unknown Master Recordings reached out to Superfluous Motor with a wild idea, and they generously gave their blessing for these AI-assisted tribute covers from the Trifecta series.
The original Trifecta albums remain the real heart of this music, and we strongly encourage you to find them, stream them, buy them, and support Superfluous Motor directly. Without their openness and kindness, this project simply would not exist.

Recovered from the same small stack of fan-made discs that yielded the Trifecta: Fusion tribute, this second volume captures Superlative Molar digging into the funkier, more hard grooving side of Superfluous Motor’s Trifecta project. The band, a tight circle of friends who came up together through the Mohawk Music Program in Hamilton, Ontario, set themselves a simple challenge: if Fusion was about space and motion, Funk had to be about sweat, pocket, and riff.
These performances are not spotless recreations. Grooves push and pull, bass lines get a little dirtier than the originals, and some sections feel like the band is daring each other to lean even harder into the pocket. What started as a private “we love this record a bit too much” obsession became a full alternate run at the album, equal parts respectful and slightly unhinged.
Special thanks to Caius Hubris, whose original vocal performances on “Catamaran Man” and “Red Pens and Wooden Spoons” with Superfluous Motor helped define these tracks. Superlative Molar’s versions tip the hat to his work as much as to the core compositions.
Unknown Master Recordings presents this set as part two of a three part Trifecta tribute series. If Fusion was the wide angle shot, Funk is the close up on the rhythm section, all grit and grin. Think of it as hearing the same ideas filtered through a different room, different players, and a dance floor instead of a launch pad.
