Sleep on the Rim of Kilauea Crater at Volcano House! Visit the southern most point of the USA!

Our first two nights of our Hawaiian trip are spent at Volcano House on the crater rim of the Kilauea Volcano. We check out the lava each night and hike the area during the day.

The Iki Trail takes us through the 1959 eruption to witness the devastation and beauty of the regrowth of the foliage taking place. The Thurston Lava Tube was easily accessible and very short. Many trails take you around the crater and through sulfur banks and steaming bluffs.

We drive down to the most southern point of the United States and drive along the Chain of Craters Road to the Sea Arch and the Petroglyphs.

Coming back we stop at the most southern bakery in the United States to have a burger and dessert.

Each night we have dinner at the Volcano House. There is the main dining room and the lounge which also serves food.

After here we are leaving for Hilo to check out more of the Island of Hawaii!
