The date 5th March 1951 saw the firs concert of the SUK TRIO, etablished
at the suggestion of violonist Josef Suk who, grandson of Suk composer
and great-grandson of Antonín Dvořák, was at that time sill a student at the
Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. The ensemble went on to enjoj almost forty highly successful years of performing in concert halls both in
its homeland and elsewhere in the world, its repertoire comprising almost
all the core works written for the piano trio medium. It was as the performing team Josef Suk, Josef Chuchro, Jan Panenka that the trio achieved greatest
renown and made its very finest recordings. The Suk trio left its indelible
mark on the rich history of Czech chamber music and along with the celebrates Smetana Quartet, was the most important Czech chamber ensemble during the post-war period.
