Finally got a decent day on the water.
It feels like forever since I’ve had the chance to slow down, soak it all in, and actually find some fish. I’ve been out scouting new spots over the last few weeks, but between the relentless spring rains and storm after storm here in the Ozarks, it’s been tough going. Don’t get me wrong—I’m grateful for the water, but man, this old fisherman could use a break now and then.

This little Ozark creek in southwest Missouri is just as sweet as its name. If you know, you know. It’s no secret and definitely gets its fair share of pressure, and sure, folks say it’s not what it used to be. But to me, this place is still paradise. It holds some incredible fish and offers moments that remind me why I love this so much.

I started my day working about a half mile downstream before flipping around and heading upstream through some prime water—dodging rain and lightning along the way. The rule’s simple: see a flash, get off the water. If you hear thunder, you’re already in danger. Fishing during a thunderstorm is no joke. Thankfully, these were smaller cells that moved through quickly. I’d wait them out creekside, just watching the storms roll through. Honestly, that quiet time with the water and the weather was almost as good as the fishing itself.
