Matsu Fox is the solo project of Mats Voshol. Having studied Jazz percussion at the Conservatoire of Amsterdam, his ambition to become a full-time Jazz musician, over the years, gradually took on the form of a broader musical outlook: his interest in other genres like pop, rock, and theatre led to many experiences in creating and performing.

Dance is a keyword that comes to mind when describing Matsu Fox music. His tracks are self-described as ‘Yacht Funk’, jokingly referencing ‘Yacht Rock’, similar in the characteristic of catchy melodies and prominent vocals. He mentions Shuggie Otis and Ruben Nielson as inspirations in the creative approach, those recluse individuals who create a funky world of their own, a wish before that of being heard by the general public. With a nod to the mid-70’s funk/soul era, his sound is better characterized as lo-fi with a bit of hi-fi rather than the other way around.

Suffice to say, Mats establishes himself as a promising new pop artist on the Dutch musical scene with his first EP Yacht Funk, unpretentious but skilled, lyrically serious but positive and upbeat.
