Meet Our Doc: Erika Valentine, MD, Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon

Pediatric orthopedic surgeon Erika Valentine, MD, was a child when she first started thinking about becoming a doctor. As she pursued her medical degree, she developed a love for healing muscles, bones and ligaments as an orthopedic surgeon.

“My entire childhood shaped me to have a mechanical-thinking mind,” says Dr. Valentine. “We get to see a tangible problem and think of a creative solution to fix it. Then, we can watch that child grow.”

Dr. Valentine says the relationship between caregivers and patients is very important.

“I try to put myself in those parents’ shoes,” she says. “I explain, ‘this is what I would do if it were my own child,’ and really understand things from their perspective.”

Building on this personalized approach, Dr. Valentine advocates for customized, multidisciplinary care.

“No two children are the same, so I make individualized treatment plans for each child,” she says. “Everyone here really loves treating children and we all come together to determine what is best for the outcome of the patient.”
