J'ouvert celebrations, London - Geez Photowalk #38

Welcome to another Geez photowalk where I'm sharing the street photography experience, one shot at a time!

This is part 1 of a couple of special episodes covering the Notting hill Carnival in West London.

This particular video is about J'ouvert, which is the street party launching Carnival.
It starts early in the morning at 6am and last about 3 hours until 9am.
Usually located in Ladbroke Grove in Notting Hill, people enjoy music and through paint as well as powder on each other in a joyful atmosphere.

You can also spot specific characters from the Caribbean carnival folklore such as the Jab Molassies and other types, more on that in the video.

I cannot do justice to the NHC and a proper documentary would be necessary to present it properly.
Created in the 60s by the West London Caribbean community, it is an interesting fact that the biggest street party in Europe has Caribbean origins.

Bringing 2 millions people every year, it can gets really busy but the mood and the vibes are so worth it. From a photography point of view, there is so much to capture!
