Merihaka Bridge was opened to pedestrians and cyclists on 17 June 2025. The bridge connects Merihaka in Hakaniemi with the island of Nihti, and is the first of three new bridges for pedestrian, cycling and light rail to be completed as part of the Crown Bridges Light Rail project. Finke Bridge and Kruunuvuori Bridge will open in stages by 2026, with tram services beginning in 2027.
The tramway runs along the centre of the 422-metre structure, with footpaths on both sides. On the southern side there is a four-metre-wide Baana classified cycleway that connects with the wider cycling network and provides a convenient, car-free route over the former harbour basin. The bridge also includes a liftable section that can be opened in special cases to accommodate residential and restaurant vessels.
