This video shows how to prepare Traditional Chicken Sambar with Avare Kaalu (Hyacinth Beans) in a simple home-style method.

🥘 Chicken Sambar Recipe – Ingredients & Method
👉 For Masala Preparation
🔸Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a kadai
🔸Add peeled garlic cloves and chopped ginger
🔸Add small pieces cinnamon
🔸Add 8–10 cloves
🔸Add 2 onions (chopped) and saute well
🔸Add 5–6 dried red chillies
🔸Add 2 tomatoes (chopped)
🔸Add poppy seeds (Gasagase)
🔸Add pepper
🔸Add roasted gram (Dalia / Pottukadalai)
🔸Add ½ tablespoon turmeric powder
🔸Add 1½ tablespoons Kashmiri red chilli powder
🔸Add 2 tablespoons coriander powder
🔸Mix well and fry until the masala blends properly
🔸Add chopped coriander leaves
🔸Add chopped mint leaves (Pudina)
🔸Mix well
🔸Add chopped coconut
🔸Mix once and switch off the stove
(Do not roast the coconut)
👉 Let the masala cool completely, then grind it into a smooth paste.
👉For Chicken Sambar
🔸Heat 2–3 tablespoons oil in a pressure cooker
🔸Add ½ chopped onion and sauté
🔸Add 1 kg chicken (or as per requirement)
🔸Mix well
🔸Add 2 tablespoons rock salt
(Norma salt can also be used)
🔸Add 1 tablespoon turmeric powder
(Helps remove raw chicken smell)
🔸Mix and let the chicken cook
🔸Add field beans / hyacinth beans (Avare Kaalu)
(Peeled before adding)
🔸Mix well and cook until chicken is half cooked
👉Final Cooking
🔸Add the ground masala paste
🔸Add 1½ cups water (adjust as needed)
🔸Check salt and adjust
🔸Close the lid and pressure cook for 3 whistles
🔥 Tasty traditional Chicken Sambar is ready!
