I discovered my love for Wontons in Chili Oil for the very first time at Din Tai Fung. It was love at first bite. I made it a mission to create a similar recipe. I can't say that it's a duplicate of the original version, but it is SO tasty. The wonton wrappers are silky smooth, but coated with a savory and mildly spicy garlic sauce. I decided to make a vegan version, but you can adjust the recipe to your liking. I personally enjoy making this recipe with ground pork as well and rather than using Chinese vinegar, I like to use white vinegar.
Ingredients:
For the Wontons:
1/4 cup chopped king oyster mushrooms
1/4 cup chopped carrots,
1/4 cup cabbage
salt and pepper to taste
3 garlic cloves
1 block of tofu
2 tbsp green onions
3 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp shaoxing wine
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp chili oil
1 tbsp suga
2 tbsp soy sauce
1tbsp shaoxing wine
1 tbsp white pepper powder
wonton wrappers
For the Chili Oil:
oil
3 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes)
1/4 cup water
3 star anise
2 tbsp green onion
2 tbsp garlic
1/2 tsp sesame oil
1 tbsp shaoxing wine
1 tsp sugar
