Nestled amidst the rocky hills of Ramanagara, Karnataka, Ramadevara Betta (Ramagiri) is a unique destination where history, mythology, nature, and adventure meet. Just 45 km from Bengaluru, this hill attracts devotees, trekkers, bird lovers, and movie fans alike.

🌄 Mythological Significance
According to the Ramayana, Lord Rama spent part of his Vanavasa (exile) here. Legends say that Rama performed Shiva pooja at this hill to overcome challenges, and the Rameshwara Temple was established in his honor.

Another fascinating story is about Kakasura, the crow demon and son of Indra. When he troubled Sita Mata, Rama struck him with a blade of grass (Dharbhe Hullu) turned into a powerful arrow. Kakasura begged for forgiveness, and Lord Rama freed him from his curse. Since then, it is believed no crows are ever seen around this hill.

This divine connection makes Ramadevara Betta a true Ramayana Kshetra.

Ramadevara Betta is also famous as Giduga Betta (Vulture Hill). It is home to long-billed, Egyptian, and white-backed vultures – 3 of the 9 vulture species found in India. Declared a sanctuary in 2012, it protects over 346 hectares of rocky terrain. Bird lovers can spot these rare giants soaring over the hills.
🎬 Sholay Movie Fame
This hill gained worldwide attention when the Bollywood blockbuster Sholay (1975) was shot here, making Ramanagara famous as “Gabbar’s Land.”

ಇಂದ್ರನ ಮಗನಾದ ಕಾಕಾಸುರ (ಕಾಗೆ ದೈತ್ಯ) ಸೀತಾಮಾತೆಯನ್ನು ಕಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗ, ಶ್ರೀರಾಮನು ದರ್ಭೆಯ ಹುಲ್ಲಿನಿಂದ ಬಾಣವನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿ ಅವನನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆದರು. ಕ್ಷಮೆ ಕೇಳಿದ ಕಾಕಾಸುರನಿಗೆ ರಾಮನು ಶಾಪದಿಂದ ಮುಕ್ತಿಗೊಳಿಸಿದರು. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಈ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಸುತ್ತ ಕಾಗೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಣುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ನಂಬಿಕೆ.
