Can this be the hottest guitar Jimi Hendrix ever recorded? Originally released on Band of Gypsies in 1970, tracks were taken from four shows Hendrix did with Buddy Miles on drums and Billy Cox on bass at the Fillmore East in New York City: two shows on New Year’s Eve, December 31st of 1969; another two the following night, New Year’s Day of 1970.
“Message of Love” was recorded and released by Hendrix several times, but the track off the original Band of Gypsies is by far the hottest. Reportedly it’s the version from the fourth show, the second performance of January 1st, 1970.
We discuss this song on Classic Rock Forever (dot com) in an article entitled: “The Top 10 Best Guitar Solos in Rock & Roll History.”
We realize there is some discrepancy with the name of this tune. In some places it is called “Message To Love.” The original liner notes, however, said “Message Of Love.” In addition, and more importantly, Jimi sings “message of love.” So we’ll go with that.
