Everyone has their own favorite way of putting PL-259 connectors on coax, be it RG-58 or LMR-400 or whatever. In this case I am dealing with RG-400 coax which is a double shielded, silver plated coax the size of RG-58. The center wire dielectric is PTFE (Teflon). Good stuff - a bit stiff though. In any case, all the official ways of putting PL-259 connectors on small coax and using the reducer UG-175/U with new, high quality, PL-259's ends up shorting the braid to the center conductor. The problem does not exist on the vintage connectors for reasons shown in the video. The solution is an easy one and I hope it helps you safely and effectively install PL-259 connectors on your RG-400 and RG-58 coax cable. 73 WA4QGA
I mentioned in the video I used a #6 size nylon washer - this relates to a 8x3x2 mm washer.
