Construction is underway at the eastern banks of Pangong Lake in Tibet, around 110 km from a 2020 border clash site, where satellite imagery shows a new Chinese air-defence complex taking shape. The facility includes command and control buildings, barracks, vehicle sheds, munition storage, and radar positions. Analysts highlight the presence of covered missile launch positions with retractable roofs designed for Transporter Erector Launcher (TEL) vehicles, potentially housing China’s long-range HQ-9 Surface-to-Air Missile systems. The complex, identified by US-based AllSource Analysis, appears similar to a facility at Gar County, 65 km from the Line of Actual Control (LAC), opposite India’s upgraded Nyoma airfield, suggesting enhanced Chinese air-defence capabilities near a strategic border zone.
