I used Windows 2000 in 2025. What's it like after 25 years?

Windows 2000 isn't that bad of an OS and held its own during a time of Windows XP dominance. So how well does it hold up 25 years later? Windows 2000 was released in 2000 to quite some press attention. Getting rid of the old "Windows NT" branding in favor of new branding similar to that of Windows 95 and 98, it introduced a variety of features under the hood, got Windows NT up to speed with Windows 9x, and would serve as a base for Microsoft Whistler, a project that would become Windows XP that was the result of the consolidation of Microsoft Codenames Neptune and Odyssey.

Windows 2000 was the final version of Windows to support the NEC PC-9800 series of computers popular in Japan during the 90's (although I'm somewhat doubtful regarding compatibility), as well as the last version to use no "visual theme" by default (on a client release), the last version of Windows that required at least a 486 (XP can be installed on as old as a Pentium easily, although XP has been put onto the Intel i486) and the last version of Windows to have builds (including pre-release builds) for DEC Alpha (Windows NT 5.0 Build 1671.1).

Windows 2000 was discontinued in July of 2010, after years of extended support in which software and hardware manufacturers stopped providing support for the aging operating system. I hope you enjoy this video.
