Bar Italia "glory hunter" at the Bowery Ballroom on 4th December 2023 (Live)

London-based Bar Italia visited the Bowery Ballroom as a five-piece, fronted by Nina Cristante in fetching stripey leggings, Sam Fenton in River Island and Jezmi Fehmi in meet-the-parents jacket and tie. They delivered their trademark murky drones and diamonds in the rough, taking it in turns on vocals, but with Cristante doing most of the legwork while the chaps attended to their guitar duties. The crowd went home happy: one punter was overheard to say that Bar Italia "are the last of the cool bands". That seems like a fitting description.

The Bowery Ballroom in midtown Manhattan is one of NYC's best small music venues with good sightlines and great sound, although the vocals could have been more prominent in the mix. Top marks for quick entry and a decent (and speedy) Guinness at the upstairs bar.
