B.B. King would have turned 100 this year, and I want to share a personal story from my early career as a music journalist. Back in 2004, I had the privilege of interviewing the King of the Blues — and it became a life-changing moment. From his generosity with his time, to singing a 1948 radio jingle over the phone, to giving me one of the most meaningful compliments of my career, the experience shaped my path as a writer. In this video, I reflect on that interview, his autobiography with David Ritz, and B.B.’s enduring legacy as perhaps the most traveled musician in modern history.
