What Exactly is an Apostle?

There is more than one kind of person for whom the name "apostle" is used in the New Testament. Not just the twelve disciples or Paul and Silas. In any case, we should not use the term for anyone alive today as if that person is at the same level as those people, but we could use the term for someone who is sent as a missionary to serve others.
