Arco Arun recovered

This is an excerpt from collection of movies taken by my dad, Don Harris from the ops room in the PLA building where he served . And whilst they are not recorded in 4K precision or smooth fade they at least show a Thames that was alive with people that worked on this magical river. I remember visiting this building over the years when it first opened you could see the ops room with the old radars looking like some cold war bunker. It then changed when the PLA moved to a digital system and changing the building so you could see the ships. Dad used to work shift and on the odd occasion I’d go up. He’d always have his video camera always recording events one of those was the Arco Arun a suction dredger which passed the building after being recovered. Arco Arun survived a capsize and a sinking on the 13th October 1998 when She grounded and took a 20 ft gash in fwd compartment causing rapid water to ingress at broadness point. Ultimately being refloated in late November by Smit Salvage it shows the tugs and crane being brought to recover it and then the vessel being brought past the PLA build in Gravesend. Arco Arun is now called Albayrak and is still working , that kinda makes me glad. Dad would have been happy about that. This video captures the post sinking recovery and the tugs involved .
