Explosion at Sortirovka // Sverdlovsk 1988

Exactly 4 months before the explosion at Sortirovka, a major train accident occurred in Arzamas. But why did the Soviet government not learn any lessons and the tragedy repeated itself again on October 4, 1988 in Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg)?

A train with explosives rolled down a hill and crashed into a freight train passing by. A huge explosion took place, which seriously destroyed the districts of New and Old Sorting. It was the largest man-made disaster in the history of Sverdlovsk (Yekaterinburg). The noise was heard even in remote areas of Vtorchermet and concrete goods. According to the archives, more than 500 people were injured, 6 were killed. And unfortunately, these tragedies were not the last. A year later, on June 4, 1989, the largest transport disaster in the history of the USSR and Russia occurred, near the city of Ufa.
