David Miro: Preserving a Legacy of Copper Craftsmanship in Akko
David Miro was born in 1939 in Mosul, Iraq, into a Jewish family with a rich heritage of metalworking that spanned several generations. In 1950, the entire family immigrated to Israel and settled in the city of Akko.
Once established, David’s grandfather began teaching him the unique craft of copper artistry that had been passed down through the family.
The Story of David Miro’s Art Workshop
After completing his military service, David opened his first workshop in Akko in 1963. The shop became known for its distinctive art pieces, featuring motifs inspired by Judaism, Christianity, and the Holy Land.
About the Copper Artworks
The artworks are created using basic materials such as copper or brass, which are then coated with oxide or silver. Each piece is lacquered and fired to prevent tarnishing, ensuring durability and lasting beauty.
David Miro’s large and unique workshop offered items that cannot be found elsewhere—artworks steeped in history and nostalgia, continuing the stories and traditions of past generations.
In 2005, David’s son, Dror, joined the workshop and trained to become the next generation of copper artisan.
In 2025, David Miro passed away, leaving Dror as the sole custodian of this rare and treasured craft, carrying forward the family’s legacy and keeping the ancient art of copper smithing alive in Akko.
