This patient had a nodule in the middle of the neck, lying on top of the breathing tube, called the trachea. RFA on this type of nodule is high risk due to the potential in damaging the trachea. The heat can melt the structure leaving a hole, requiring a breathing tube and corrective surgeries.

⛑️RFA has been around for over a decade and initially used by Interventional Radiologist for the treatment of cancers, such as the liver and lung. Interventional Radiologist, like our doctor, now use microwave and cryoablation (freezing) for cancerous tumors. RFA however is well suited for the treatment of thyroid and parathyroid lesions.

RFA is an outpatient non-surgical treatment for benign thyroid nodules. This innovative treatment is performed in our office with local numbing medication and is well tolerated. Patients walk out of the office with just a Band-Aid. ⁣⁣⁣
