February 2021 Update and Lots of Bodywork - 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT 3800sc 3.8L L67

Progress has been slow due to the Winter Holidays and lots of cold, wet, weather. It is finally warming up and I'm hoping to paint soon. In this video I show the 3800sc Engine idle with the balance shaft removed. I also show how I have cut the rear decklid for an engine window and a rear vent. I am fabricating a vent from an extra set of decklid vents.

The C8 Corvette has a great uncle in this naked 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT. This mid-engine Fiero GT has been engine swapped with a 3800sc Supercharged L67 with ZZP Stage 2.5 intercooler, ZZP XP camshaft, upgraded heads, Jet-Hot coated ZZP powerlogs, and many more upgrades. It isn't an LS Swap, but it is almost as good and has lots of support. It is on the home stretch for this restoration of GM's mass produced mid-engine car and this engine swap.



Since the body panels are off, people aren’t sure what car it actually is. The top guesses are Toyota MR2, Chevrolet Corvette, and a few people have actually said Mazda Miata MX6.


The Pontiac Fiero competed with the Toyota MR2. The original MR2 was squared off, but the 2nd generation MR2 looks like it took cues from the Fastback Fiero GT. The 2020 and 2021 Corvette C8 have a similar mid-engine layout and the front trunk and rear trunk are in close to the same location.
