Another clip from my latest trip to Mt' Lofty Station, in August 25'. Just round the bend from the station, the "S" curves at the Tennis courts , give a great view of trains climbing the steep grade to the summit. The first SCT train is headed East, back to Melbourne , and sneaks around the bend , out of the shadows. Eastbound services are usually lighter, as most goods are heading west to the remote city of Perth , so locos aren't working as hard on these services. The next service is headed West, and a lot heavier , so we can just get to hear the GE"s thumping away, despite the "Noise nazi's" doing everything they can to dampen the 7FDL-16 prime movers.
Modern Aussie locos are fitted with sound deadening chambers, not mufflers, and these kill almost all of the sweet tunes from the engines!
NOT happy......Jan.
Cheers Gregg.
