KAYAK SAFETY: What you NEED TO KNOW to go paddling safely in winter or in cold water

The information shared in this video was recorded in February 2024, unscripted, on a particularly snowy day. One thing I noticed I didn't mention is that in temperatures below the freezing point, equipment freezes and may not work as intended! Bilge pump, folding paddle float, spray skirt getting stuck etc.

Thanks to everyone who joined during the Premiere of this video on Feb 28th, 2024! It was actually the first Premiere ever on the Air On The Water channel.

Note on lighting: what's recommended for kayaks is white omnidirectional light (360 degrees) for visibility towards other vessels, in addition to headlight to be able to light up areas close to you where needed. I also use an Orbiloc on the shoulder of my PFD, which shows a white light in most directions. In many countries, red/green/white lights should not be used for a small craft such as a kayak or SUP, so as not to give the impression that it's a larger craft. White light is the way to go!
