The dangers/fun of improvising in front of a live audience unrehearsed:
Professor Mark Glanville and I decided to improvise on the tune to “Abide With Me,” but little did I know that there was more than one tune under the name Abide With Me that was popular. So when we started performing, we were not playing the same piece. But miraculously, we found a way to cadence somewhat cohesively together at the end of every 8-bars, even though the chords were a lot spicier than anticipated.
After putting down the viola for ten years since graduating from music school, I did not have any motivation to play the viola again. But thanks to the brothers and sisters at Regent College who value the arts so highly, it has been an incredible experience reflecting on my vocation through very different lenses.
