I bought a used 1995 Shopsmith Model 510 which looked to be in pretty decent shape. Super clean inside, but someone must have taken this thing apart at some point, and never put if back together correctly. The headstock shorted out when I increased the speed, owing to the power wire rubbing against the sheaves. When the now bare wire rubbed the metal components, BLAM! The breaker got thrown.
The wires are repaired, the headstock is newly cleaned and lubricated, and I think all is well now. If you are into Shopsmiths, then this gives you a little glimpse inside the headstock, and might be helpful to you someday when you need to replace a belt or something.
