Friday Sermon – Sheikh Muhammad bin Ali Al-Shanqeeti

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds; the good end is for the righteous, and there is no aggression except against the wrongdoers. Then after that:

O believers, O monotheists:
One who looks at the number of Muslims of Ahl as-Sunnah sees a billion and more, while one who looks at their enemies sees only a small number.
The Jews in the world do not exceed ten million people, and the number of the Rawafid (a derogatory term used here historically for certain Shia groups) in the world does not reach fifty million; the number of Ahl as-Sunnah is a billion and more. What is this weakness?

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, tells us:
“It is almost as if the nations will fall upon you as hungry people fall upon their dish.”
Let us stand with history to see how nations fell upon the Ummah of Islam. The lands of Islam were divided among the nations of disbelief: they became British colonies, French colonies, German colonies, Portuguese colonies. The Islamic world was partitioned by the Western world, and those countries dominated by the colonizer obeyed the colonizer and carried out what their masters ordered, because they had turned away from Islam and because they were afflicted with a disease called weakness (wahn).

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, defined this weakness. The companions asked:
“O Messenger of Allah, will it be because of our small numbers that the nations will fall upon us and consume us?”
He said: “No, rather you are many.”
And the Prophet, peace be upon him, spoke the truth: indeed we are many, but you are like the foam of a flood.

The foam is what a torrent carries with it of dead leaves and dry twigs that lie at the edges of the water, having no root.
Likewise, a corrupt word is like a corrupt tree uprooted from the earth, having no stability.

When Islamic conviction weakens in the hearts of the believers, when reliance on Allah diminishes, when people turn away from the Book of Allah and turn toward the world, forgetting the Hereafter, the Prophet, peace be upon him, said:
“You have been afflicted with wahn (weakness).”
They asked: “What is wahn, O Messenger of Allah?”
He said: “Love of the world and dislike of death.”

These two causes are among the greatest reasons for the fall of the Ummah. Love of the Hereafter, and loving dying in the way of Allah, are among the greatest reasons for the revival of the Ummah.

People cannot love the Hereafter while they are heedless of it, nor can they love death when they have prepared nothing for the Hereafter.
It was said to Ibrahim ibn Adham: “Why do people hate death and love life?”
