Program 3 was the "free" sequence, where 7 countries (teams) contributed a figure. All pilots had to build their own sequence using those figures, adding one or two of your own choice. It was a tough one to design, as the figures didn’t flow well together.
Team Netherlands was happy with our final sequence, but the first two figures—both climbs—posed a major challenge we hadn’t trained for. We had to dive hard right from the start to gain enough speed for the second figure.
I was nervous going in, and it turned out to be one of my toughest flights of the championship. I pulled over 8G at 275 km/h—near VNE—straight out of the tow. Damn that was heavy! Seeing 210 km/h after the first figure was a relief: perfect speed for the hammerhead!
WAGAC 2024 was my first world championship and winning it right away amazes me up to this day. Huge thanks to all that made it possible.
