平安時代には都の東の墓地「鳥辺野」（とりべの）へ至る道筋の入り口にあったため「六道の辻」と呼ばれ 現世と冥界の境界と考えられていました

Photo taken on November 19, 2025. This temple is part of the Kenninji school of the Rinzai sect and is located in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. During the Heian period, it was known as "Rokudo-no-Tsuji" (the Crossroads of the Six Paths) because it was located at the entrance to the road leading to the Toribeno cemetery in the east of the capital. It was considered the boundary between this world and the underworld.
