1963 Chevy Corvair Monza Spyder 283 V8 swap

This 1963 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Spyder has been modified with a front-mounted 283ci V8, a four-speed manual transmission, a Mustang II front end, a solid rear axle, and adjustable coilovers. The project was reportedly carried out over two years by the previous owner, and also included a repaint in gold as well as interior customization with new tan vinyl upholstery. Approximately 1,900 miles have been driven since completion in spring 2019, and the car was acquired by the selling owner in 2021. This modified Corvair is offered in California with a clean California State title.

The body wears a two-stage repaint in Saddle Tan (932), a front grille has been added, while other details include factory deck lid louvers as well as 283 and SS badges. The soft top has been removed and is in need of a new top, however the mechanical aspects function properly.

Painted 15″ rally wheels with chrome accents wear Firestone tires up front and Primewell rubber out back. A Mustang II-style front suspension and steering setup was reportedly sourced from Johnny Law Motors and features tubular A-arms, rack-and-pinion steering, and disc brakes. A solid rear axle with traction bars and drum brakes is located in the rear, and adjustable coilovers can be found at all four corners.

From the first turn of the key to the last moment when you step out of the car, this Corvair is always ready for anything you throw at it. The engine starts up right away every time and sounds fantastic as well, it idles normally and pulls very strongly. The suspension on the car is soft yet firm, and comfortable for long drives. The car handles turns very well and tracks pretty straight. The brakes on the car perform as they should and stop with no problems.

This Corvair puts a big smile on your face when driving it and everyone else's face when they see it! A light and nimble car with a big roar, this Corvair packs a punch and makes it a blast to drive.

Due to unforeseen business expenses, the owner is forced to sell this Corvair a lot sooner than expected.

Interior work reportedly included creation of new bucket seat covers, a rear cushion, and custom-fit carpets tailored to fit over the added transmission tunnel. The dash and other exposed sheet metal were repainted in body color.

A stock steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer flanked by four auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 1,900 miles since completion of the build, with actual mileage unknown. The selling dealer notes that no radio is installed, though a speaker grille remains present. An SS badge has been mounted to the glovebox door.
