Closing out the Saturday flying display were the @afthunderbirds, who flew a spectacular high show performance. The Thunderbirds hadn't performed at McGuire since 2016, and their visit to McGuire was much appreciated by the mostly 75,000-strong New Jersey crowd, who hadn't seen the Thunderbirds in the state since 2023 when they last performed in Atlantic City.
Please be sure to check out all of the other videos from JB MDL that weekend!
For those curious, since this video is well over an hour long, the demo begins approximately 23 minutes into the video. This was shot one week before the team's highly anticipated documentary, which was released on May 23, 2025 on @Netflix.
Note that the winds had kicked up for both Saturday and Sunday, which were too high for a jump to take place with the 404th Civil Affairs Battalion on Saturday and the Wings of Blue on Sunday. Much of the video from both days isn't the steadiest as I fought the winds valiantly. Finally, the video (except for the Thunderbirds) was shot from the outer edge of the aerobatic box, which was done with prior approval from the Airboss and the FAA.
The 2025 JB MDL "Power in the Pines" Open House & Air Show took place at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (on the McGuire side of the Joint Base), located near Wrightstown, New Jersey from May 17-18, 2025. The video here was shot on Saturday May 17, 2025.
MUSIC DISCLAIMER: Any music in the video was played through a public address system and ZINGER AVIATION MEDIA does not have any control over what music is being played during an air show or the volume of said music. Over the years, the music industry has increased its concern to ensure they are paid when ANY copyrighted music is played. Therefore, according to the International Council of Air Shows (ICAS), any U.S. air show, whether civilian or military, must secure the necessary music licenses for broadcast of pre-recorded copyrighted music over public address systems. For the 2025 airshow season, ICAS has negotiated a deal that will allow issuance of music licenses for ICAS member air shows for all three US music licensing organizations: ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC. Each ICAS member air show is eligible for a single package of the three music licenses for one air show at the cost of $700 for a one (1) day air show; $1,000 for a two (2) day air show; $1,250 for a three (3) day air show; $1,500 for a four (4) day air show; $1,750 for a five (5) day air show, $2,000 for a six (6) day air show; and $2,250 for a seven (7) day air show. The rate applies only to music broadcast over the public address system during the public air show portion of the program (not practice/rehearsal/closed to the public days) and does not provide the air show with the right to use pre-recorded music at concerts or other non-air show special events held in conjunction with the air show.
