Diane plays the Rieger organ of St Giles’ Cathedral — the striking red-stained Austrian oak Rieger instrument installed in 1992 and housed in the south transept.
Specifications: built by Rieger Orgelbau (1992), 3 manuals + pedals, about 58–59 speaking stops and roughly 4,000–4,156 pipes; the organ retains a few low pipes from the previous Willis instrument (notably Pedal Open Wood 16′ and parts of a 32′ rank).
Design & sound: the case was designed by Douglas Laird in red-stained Austrian oak (a bold visual statement under St Giles’ vaulted ceiling), and the tonal design was produced in consultation with Herrick Bunney and Peter Hurford — the result is an instrument equally at home in liturgy, recitals, and large Romantic repertoire.
Recorded on location at St Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh.
