Thyroid is a gland that produces hormones that are important for proper body functioning. If your thyroid gland is not working properly it cannot produce the important hormones in sufficient quantity that leads to thyroid disease. Hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism are two types of thyroid disease and their treatments are available. Sometimes unusual growth (lumps) of thyroid cells begin to grow (overgrowth), forming one or more nodules. Its reason is not known.
